| Halloween was weeks ago, but decorations are still up everywhere. Rotting pumpkins sit on porches and driveways, starting to whither and turn brown while their insides squirm. Toilet paper hangs from trees and bushes, proof of some teenage pranks that had been played. Spooky lawn decorations, fake spider webs, blinking lights, they’re all in place, untouched. Somewhere, a motion sensor witch makes a dying, distorted cackle, batteries nearly dead.
The sky is overcast and there’s a chill in the air, just enough to make you think twice about going outside without a jacket. A breeze blows a scattering of dead leaves and trash down the street, but otherwise there’s nothing. Nothing moves, nothing makes a sound. There aren’t any cars on the roads, the birds aren’t singing. Everything is dead silent, there’s no one around but you.
There’s just one problem. If there’s no one else here but you, what are those shuffling footsteps with that staggering, uneven gait coming up behind you, that putrid smell of something rotting? What do you do?
Better think quick.☣It happened on the day before Halloween, October 30th. There was a new miracle drug that had been created, and it could do everything-cure cancer, regenerate missing limbs, restore sight to someone who was blind, and many other things. It was new and radical, and the average people of the world took to calling it Salvation due to how incredible it was. And then the horrific side effects were discovered. Not long after Salvation, or YT-Virus 37 as it was known to the government, began to be introduced to the general public it started to have less than desirable effects on those that had been injected with it; deaths, mutations, and perhaps the worst of all-existence after death. Those that died returned to life, if ‘living’ was really an appropriate term for their renewed existence. Zombies is what people began calling the creatures who had lost all higher mental functions and existed only to kill and feed and sleep, and then repeat the process eternally. Others just became superhuman monsters-stronger, faster, forever hungry. Some of them retained their humanity and are able to control themselves, some of them didn’t. Others mutated, becoming true monsters, and all the while the cure that had become an epidemic began to spread faster. Transmitted by bites or infected blood, it spread first across the country and then the world, leaving humans an endangered species. Even the animals, most of them also infected by the ‘cure’, are highly dangerous and not to be taken lightly. All is not without hope though. A few weeks after the outbreak on Halloween Eve, news spread via radio broadcasts that there exists a safe compound where survivors would be safe from the infected. It is protected by a state of the art security system and a handful of genetically altered soldiers-their DNA twisted to safety harbor the virus without turning them into monsters, allowing them to benefit from the positive effects. They pay a price though, treated as outsiders by the rest of those living in the compound due to the fact that they can still transmit the virus just like any of the infected. There is also word of a cure. Still being worked on, but supposedly it’s shown success. Only those who survive to make it to this compound in the mountains of New York will be able to tell if this is true or not though. To help them along, the commander of the elite guards has left the compound to search for survivors, putting his trusted second-in-command in charge until he returns, but only fate will know if he finds them or if they make it to safety. ☣ Treat others how you want to be treated. Be kind and respectful to your fellow players and remember that IC drama does not equal OOC drama. You are not your character. We want everyone to feel comfortable and happy here, so if an issue with another player does arise and there's any issues sorting it out yourself, or you feel uncomfortable doing so, please feel free to contact a mod and we’ll do our best to help resolve the problem. ☣ We accept canon characters from all different mediums-movies, TV shows, video games, anime, manga, web comics, etc. We also accept canon AUs alongside their regular canon counterparts (such as the vampire Willow from the alternate universe shown in Buffy the Vampire Slayer along with regular Willow), fan made AUs, and original characters. ☣ Characters with super strong powers will not have these powers dampened. However, if you app a character who has some sort of god-mode type power, such as a telepath, a character with hypnotizing or fourthwalling abilities (like Deadpool), please set up a permissions post for their powers. Make sure other players are okay with these sorts of powers being used on their characters. Along with this is the usual warnings of making sure things are handled fairly in fights, no automatic hits and so forth. ☣ There will not be any activity checks here! Rejoice! ☣ There’s no limit on character ages, but we ask that you, the player, must be 15 or older to apply. This is a game where mature themes quite possibly might come up, and we would like our players to be mature as well. ☣ Is something of a mature nature? Is it gory, triggery, and/or explicitly sexual? Then please make sure that it is properly rated and warned for. Put it behind a cut and remember to lock it to members only. Any repeated failure to do this will get you booted from the game. ☣ All posts must be tagged appropriately. This would be in firstname lastname format, as well as the names of all replying characters. ☣ We don’t prohibit fourthwalling. If you have a character who fourthwalls others, or would know of their canon, just make sure the player of the other character/the cast from that canon is alright with it before you do so.

| ☣ Wʜᴏ ᴄᴀɴ I ᴘʟᴀʏ?Pretty much anyone. Characters from TV shows, movies, anime, mange, comics, web comics, videogames, whatever. Giant robots-such as from Transformers-won't be sized down. A character who’s not human-things like talking animals, telepathic fish, etc-is fine too. You won’t be forced to humanize them, though you can if you’d like to. We won’t stop you. You can also play canon AU and fanmade AU characters. Canon AUs would be like the vampire Willow from the alternate universe shown in a few Buffy episodes, or the various alternate Deadpools that make up Deadpool Corps. They would all be allowed in game at the same time. If your character has multiple different appearances or regenerations as is the Doctor's case, we do allow multiple versions. The 'timey wimey' issues that would result from them coming into contact with themselves, you know, the whole space and time continuum collapsing in on itself or whatever, would not come into play. However, characters will not ICly know this at first. They will have to discover such information on their own. Tagging for canon multiples would work as The Doctor (1), (2), and so on. Original characters, including fandom OCs, are also accepted and welcome. Please just make sure they are well constructed and fleshed out as well as possible. No Mary/Gary Stus. ☣ Hᴏᴡ ᴍᴀɴʏ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀs ᴄᴀɴ I ᴘʟᴀʏ?'Applications' are open all the time, so there's no need to wait for that, and there is no limit to how many characters you can play at once. ☣ Cᴀɴ I ᴘʟᴀʏ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴛʜᴀɴ ᴏɴᴇ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴛʜᴇ sᴀᴍᴇ ᴄᴀɴᴏɴ?Yes. The limit is two characters per player from the same canon so long as they have little to no reason to interact with each other. If you’re not sure if it’d be alright, feel free to ask a mod. ☣ Hᴏᴡ ᴍᴜᴄʜ ʜᴇᴀᴅᴄᴀɴᴏɴ ᴄᴀɴ ᴡᴇ ɪɴᴄʟᴜᴅᴇ?Headcanon is gladly accepted so long as it is well thought out and fits the character, though for original verse, canon characters, it must not directly effect the way another player would play a character from the same canon (I.E., it should not be something like headcanoning events that didn’t happen that involve other characters) without discussing it with the other players first. ☣ Hᴏᴡ ᴅᴏ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀʀɪᴠᴇ/ʜᴏᴡ ᴅɪᴅ ᴛʜᴇʏ ᴇɴᴅ ᴜᴘ ʜᴇʀᴇ? Whatever characters were doing back home, they blacked out. They won't remember what happened or how they got there. They wake up in New York City-the location is up to the player, as the city is large and there are many possibilities. They will also wake up with a cell phone on their person so that they will be able to contact the others who are also trapped there. Though they won’t know it ICly for a while, the reason they’re being brought in is because of other experiments being done by the scientists who created the Salvation virus and are working on the cure. These other experiments are weakening the boundaries between worlds, which causes people from other worlds to be dragged in at random. It also has certain other side effects that will be discovered later through events. However, even the scientists working on the project aren’t aware people are being brought in at first, so they have no way to know and explain ICly at the start. ☣ Wʜᴀᴛ ʜᴀᴘᴘᴇɴs ɪғ ᴍʏ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀ ɪs ɪɴғᴇᴄᴛᴇᴅ?Well, there are a few possibilities. The most common one is that of course they will die from it. (More information on what would happen after they die can be found in the character death section). The other option is that they will mutate into some form of monster. After that happens, they will of course become more ravenous and prone to attacking people with the intention of eating them. They will also be infectious themselves. Mutating does not mean that they become mindless. They will still retain most of their intelligence and some semblance of their personality. ☣ Wɪʟʟ ᴍʏ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀ sᴛɪʟʟ ʙᴇ ɪɴғᴇᴄᴛᴇᴅ ᴀғᴛᴇʀ ᴛʜᴇʏ ᴅɪᴇ/ᴀʀᴇ ᴋɪʟʟᴇᴅ?No. After they die they will be cleared of their infected status. At least, for the first time. If they happen to find themselves infected a second time, and die again, there will be lingering side effects for the first few hours after they’re revived, such as lack of a pulse or breath. After a third time, these side effects will grow worse, and they will find themselves retaining more and more characteristics of their previously zombified/mutated selves. Essentially, they will start to remain a monster, and will also stay infectious. ☣ Wʜᴀᴛ ʜᴀᴘᴘᴇɴs ɪғ ᴍʏ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀ ᴅɪᴇs?If they died from causes other than infection they will wake up in the nearest morgue a few hours after their demise. There is no OOC wait time required to bring characters back after they die. When they wake up, all of their wounds will be healed and there will be no negative side effects. Again, at least for the first and second times. After that there will be slight side effects. Over time, their wounds that they received before dying will slowly heal less and less, and take time to heal after they’ve revived. There is no death limit. ☣ Is ᴛʜᴇʀᴇ ᴇʟᴇᴄᴛʀᴄɪᴛʏ?Yes. There is electricity and running water in the hotels and electricity in stores. However, keep in mind that even though food will have been kept refrigerated, it will not have been replaced recently and some perishable things are likely to have spoiled anyway, such as dairy and vegetables. ☣ Aʀᴇ ᴛʜᴇʀᴇ ᴏᴛʜᴇʀ ᴍᴏᴅᴇs ᴏғ ᴛʀᴀɴsᴘᴏʀᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ ʙᴇsɪᴅᴇs ᴡᴀʟᴋɪɴɢ?Absolutely. There are bicycles, cars, motorcycles, all sorts of vehicles, just left on the roads. Some of them even have the keys in them still. The ones that don’t can be hot-wired if a character knows how to do that. Characters are free to take any of the abandoned vehicles, as they’re definitely faster and safer than walking, and can carry supplies as well. When they run out of gas, more gas can be siphoned from vehicles that aren’t being used or from gas stations, which can be found in every town. ☣ Mʏ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀ ᴄᴀɴ ғʟʏ/ɪs ᴀ ᴛᴇʟᴇᴘᴀᴛʜ/sᴏᴍᴇᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇʟsᴇ, ʜᴏᴡ ᴅᴏᴇs ᴛʜᴀᴛ ᴡᴏʀᴋ?Flying is fine, just keep in mind that straying from the group of survivors means that there will be nothing around but infected. If your character is a telepath or something else that affects other characters, be sure to put up a permissions post for those powers. Powers such as immortality, and healing factors for characters like Deadpool or Wolverine would be left intact. For vampires, blood can only be safely taken from uninfected survivors and uninfected animals. The infected carry the virus and would of course infect someone else if their blood was consumed. The same goes for their flesh. Zombies lack a true life force though higher level mutations are more alive. Basic zombies also do not have a mind to read or control. ☣ Wʜᴀᴛ ɪғ I ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴄᴀɴᴏɴ ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ?You most certainly can. Just go on over to here, fill out a form to let us know what's going on, and you can go ahead and update. You might want to give an OOC heads up too. There is no IC or OOC waiting time required. Canon updating takes effect the next time your character goes to sleep. When they wake up, they will have their new memories and whatever other changes. ☣ Wʜᴀᴛ ʜᴀᴘᴘᴇɴs ᴛᴏ ᴅᴇᴀᴅ ᴏɴ ᴀʀʀɪᴠᴀʟ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀs?Characters who are dead on arrival will be revived and healed up as good as new. ☣ Wʜᴀᴛ ᴀʙᴏᴜᴛ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀs ᴡɪᴛʜ ɪɴᴊᴜʀɪᴇs ᴜᴘᴏɴ ᴀʀʀɪᴠɪɴɢ?All injuries will either be healed when a character arrives in game, or left as is. The following important locations, but gameplay is not limited to just these places. There is nothing stopping characters from venturing outside of the city and going however far they want to, but it would probably be in their best interests to stay with other people. Safety in numbers.
Nᴇᴡ Yᴏʀᴋ Cɪᴛʏ, Nᴇᴡ Yᴏʀᴋ Iᴛ ʜᴀᴅ ᴀ ᴘᴏᴘᴜʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴ ᴀʀᴏᴜɴᴅ 8 ᴍɪʟʟɪᴏɴ ᴘᴇᴏᴘʟᴇ.
The central location. New York City used to be the most populated city in the United States. Now it sits in ruins. The streets are crowded with abandoned cars and the city crawls with the infected. Even the rats are trying to hide, taking refuge wherever they can. The subways are clearer, a quick way to travel, but who knows how many dead lurk in the dark. On the bright side, so many buildings mean there are plenty of places to hide, provided they can be fortified. On the down side, a lot of those buildings could be filled with threats. There are plenty of places to find supplies, clothes, food, weapons, but will it make a difference with your survival? Remember, a former population of 8 million means millions of infected. Not all of them have become the slow, shuffling undead. Somewhere deep under the city, in one of the subway tunnels, is a large, heavy metal door. The door is locked and requires a code to be entered on the keypad to open it, but it is not abandoned. Cameras are set up on either side of the door. This door leads to the compound where there may yet be safety and a cure.
Cᴏʙʟᴇsᴋɪʟʟ, Nᴇᴡ Yᴏʀᴋ Iᴛ ʜᴀᴅ ᴀ ᴘᴏᴘᴜʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴ ᴀʀᴏᴜɴᴅ 6,500 ᴘᴇᴏᴘʟᴇ.
Cobleskill is a relatively small town, compared to the others. It has an average danger level, which means there won’t be an excess of infected wandering the town, but there will still be enough to keep you on your toes. There are various restaurants and fast food places where nonperishable food can still be found, as well as a few grocery stores. There is also a Wal-Mart, a Dollar Tree, and other stores to find basic resources. There are plenty of abandoned houses and shops that can be used to hide in from the infected, and there’s also the Best Western hotel, along with others. Cobleskill is also home to a few movie theaters and museums.
Hᴏᴡᴇ Cᴀᴠᴇʀɴs, Cᴏʙʟᴇsᴋɪʟʟ Pᴏᴘᴜʟᴀʀ ᴛᴏᴜʀɪsᴛ ᴀᴛᴛʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴ.
Howe Caverns is filled with winding passages located 156 feet below the ground. Its entrance is accessible by an elevator. The average temperature in the Caverns is 52 degrees Fahrenheit. On the grounds above the Caverns there is a gift shop, museum, restaurant and snack bar, a motel, and kennels. There’s also free parking, but then again, all parking is free now. Beware of the staff that have since become infected, as well as the visitors and whatever dogs were in the kennels and were infected rather than killed. Otherwise, the danger level is in general far below average compared to more populated areas like towns and cities. Various resources are available, such as the typical things that are found in hotel rooms-towels, blankets, toiletries-and non-perishable food in the snack bar and restaurant-canned food, junk food, etc. Unknown to those who lived there or characters in general, there is a hidden entrance to the compound deep in the Caverns, on the other side of the Lake of Venus. The Caverns themselves are free of the infected. NPCs available for interaction in this location: Kourtney.
 Tʜᴇ Cᴏᴍᴘᴏᴜɴᴅ Pᴏᴘᴜʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴ ᴜɴᴋɴᴏᴡɴ.
The compound resides deep underground and has multiple tunnels that lead to it, primarily allowing for multiple entrances and exits in case of emergency. Its main function is to serve as a contained laboratory for scientific research, located underground in case of an accident such as a chemical leak or explosion. Despite outward appearances, the compound itself has been kept in very good condition. The hallways are well lit and the labs are all in working order. There are even living quarters, enough for dozens upon dozens of people, and all things considered, they're pretty decent. These labs are where Salvation was created and where the Elite Guards were stationed and made what they are. The compound is also responsible for creating the plasma rifles that they use.

| ☣ Kɴᴏᴡ ᴛʜᴇ sɪɢɴsThe earliest signs of infection are aches and pains like those that accompany a cold. Next comes a cold sweat and fever, sometimes also with shakes and shivers. Past that is severe lethargy and physical weakness, as well as a loss of ability to concentrate. If there was a cure, this would be considered the point of no return, as next is trouble breathing and a sluggish heartbeat. Following this is death and when the infected individual wakes up, they will no longer be themselves but some form of zombie monster (whether they become a zombie, mutation, or monster is up to the player). Currently there is no cure. ☣ Kɴᴏᴡ ʜᴏᴡ ᴛᴏ ᴘʀᴏᴛᴇᴄᴛ ʏᴏᴜʀsᴇʟғInfection is spread through various methods of contact with life forms that carry the virus. The most common ways are bites and scratches. Consuming any part of an infected creature will result in the infection spreading-getting their blood in your eyes, mouth, or any open wounds. Cooking infected animals will not make them safe to eat. The virus can also be transmitted through kissing and yes, especially sex. ☣ Kɴᴏᴡ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴇɴᴇᴍɪᴇsZᴏᴍʙɪᴇs are the most common of the infected. They’re decaying corpses that exist only to feed on living flesh or the recently deceased-whatever they can sink their teeth into first. Their level of decomposition affects their strength and speed, but considering the outbreak is still relatively recent, they’re all still pretty strong and intact. They walk, not run, and have absolutely no intelligence. They will not be able to learn or adapt, nor can they be reasoned with. They are mindless killing machines. For some reason they’re not very fond of fire and generally tend to avoid it if they can. Fire would not be recommended as a method to kill them though, since as they can’t feel pain, until the fire incapacitates them, you’d just have a flaming zombie trying to gnaw on your arm. Preferred methods of killing them would be to shoot them in the head or to decapitate them; whatever can be done at a distance without putting yourself in danger. Mᴜᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴs are humans who were able to better bond with the virus. They look mostly normal in appearance, far better than their rotting zombie cousins at least, but not all of them are capable of the higher thought processes any more that made them human once. Some of them are conscious of their infection, retaining their humanity, though others not. No matter their level of intelligence, or how much humanity they’ve retained, they are all now infectious and plagued with a never satisfied hunger. Some of them can fight it and control it, while others give in. There are small signs that can be used to tell that they’re infected, such as blackened nails or yellowed eyes. As if they weren’t dangerous enough as it is, being infectious, they also possess superhuman strength, speed and senses, especially sight and smell. As a general rule, they shouldn’t be trusted even if they seem to be calm and reasonable, just to be safe. They’re much harder to kill than a simple zombie as they also have limited regenerative abilities-enough to heal light and mild wounds-but the same methods apply for dispatching them. These do feel pain, but set them on fire at your own risk. There are also ᴍᴏɴsᴛᴇʀs that are similar to the mutations, but they truly look like monsters, unlike their more human counterparts, hence their name. They’re far smarter than the zombies and some of them are even capable of planning simple traps or being motivated by revenge. However, they still exist simply to kill and feed, and that is their main driving force. They come in various shapes and sizes depending on whether they were human or animal before mutating, limited only by imagination, essentially. Some of them are more human while others might be more animalistic. They are highly dangerous as they also possess more superhuman strength and speed than the more human like mutations and are harder to kill as their regenerative abilities are stronger, meaning that they need to be decapitated or thoroughly dismembered to stop them. A good number of the ᴀɴɪᴍᴀʟs in the world have also become infected, being reduced to hordes of mindless monsters in various states of decay that exist only to eat. While at first glance some of them, like squirrels and birds, might not seem like too much to worry about, but keep in mind that they are infectious and one single scratch or bite will transmit the disease. The smaller animals are generally non-aggressive unless provoked, but the larger animals like dogs, cats, bears, and other such creatures should always be considered dangerous as they could attack at any moment. Infected animals are found just about everywhere, in populated areas and in the wilderness, and should be avoided at all costs. While not enemies, the NPC Eʟɪᴛᴇ Gᴜᴀʀᴅs are genetically engineered soldiers that guard the compound in New York and are responsible for keeping everyone inside safe. Their DNA has been altered to allow them to better bond with the virus and turn them into super soldiers with regenerative powers and all the benefits of the mutations rather than becoming mindless monsters, though it’s still possible for them to infect people just like all of the others affected by the virus. They are the closest thing to a cure that the scientists in the compound have created so far, though the process to alter their DNA is not only a lengthy, expensive, and painful process, but it also has not yet been perfected and should not be considered a true ‘cure’. As it is, no one knew if the soldiers who volunteered would survive the process or if it would be successful. All guards are armed with high tech plasma rifles that are capable of firing a dozen shots before needing to be recharged for a few hours. ☣ Iɴғᴇᴄᴛᴇᴅ NPCs | Cʜᴀʀᴏɴ Bᴇʟʟ He’s the head of the Elite Guards. He’s also the youngest at twenty-two. Charon is a good soldier, though a little inexperienced, and his heart’s in the right place. He only commands the guards because he was the first to volunteer for the experiment. He’s supposed to be guarding the compound but rumor has it he’s left his post to search for survivors. | | Dᴇʀᴇᴋ Mɪʟʟᴇʀ He’s the second-in-command of the Elite Guards and was handpicked by Charon. He’s also one of Charon’s closest friends and was the second to volunteer. He was left in charge of guarding the compound. |

Upon arriving in game, all characters will find a cell phone on their person. It has various capabilities, such as recording and broadcasting video and audio, and sending and receiving text messages. It cannot, however, access the internet or send e-mail. Maybe there isn’t any internet to access. It can also be used as a flashlight and has a few games installed on it. As far as cell phones go, it’s fairly simple to use and navigate the menus. Though not as easy to do unless you’re tech savvy, is also the ability to filter messages away from certain people or post anonymously to the network. Unless something is posted anonymously, the character’s name-full name, no nicknames-will be included with whatever they post. You can try to change what name it displays, but it will always, mysteriously, change back the next day. The battery in these phones will never die or need to be recharged, so there’s no need to worry about it becoming nothing more than a very expensive paperweight when you need it most. If the phone is lost or broken, it will be replaced the next IC morning by another phone simply appearing in its owner’s pocket or somewhere nearby if they don’t have pockets. If the phone is stolen, the same thing will happen, except the stolen phone will also disappear. Stealing isn’t nice kids, don’t do it. Navigation | |
